Patrick V. McNamara Federal Building In the late spring of 2001, the General Services Administration awarded a contract for the installation of 2800 Interior Insulating Windows and between-the-glass blinds at the McNamara Federal Building in Detroit, MI. The between-the-glass blinds will provide a uniform, state-of-the-art look to both the interior and exterior of the windows. The addition of the between-the-glass blinds and the interior insulating windows is predicted to save the federal government over four hundred dollars per day in utility costs. In addition, the Maine Glass project generated tremendous ‘first-cost’ savings on new air handling equipment. In order to update the HVAC systems, the McNamara Federal Building needed to replace all of the existing air handling equipment. Because the Maine Glass installation provided superior insulation, less extensive air-handling equipment was needed. This project, with an overall cost of $1.65million, generated instant savings of $1.58million by reducing the size and cost of the necessary air-handling units!! Interior Insulating Windows by Maine Glass work well with Executive Order 12902 mandating that all Federal agencies reduce their buildings energy usage by 30% by the year 2005. The mandate requires that the source of the reduction must provide less than a 10-year pay back. Maine Glass offers a free “Energy Evaluation” that will determine the anticipated energy savings after the windows or windows and blinds are installed. |
