Fort McHenry The star-shaped Fort McHenry National Monument was the site of the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. It was at Fort McHenry where Francis Scott Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner. Of all the areas in the National Park System, Fort McHenry is the only one designated a National Monument and Historic Shrine. Recently, Ft.
